(In)Visible is a powerful dance work by Mozambican choreographerJaneth Mulapha exploring themes of seeing and not seeing, and the blindness we choose. Through movement, narration, and striking scenography, performers navigate hope, despair, and the fragile balance of identity, age, injury, and disability.

The production brings together a seasoned and diverse creative team, including South African scenographer Jenni-Lee Crewe, and lighting and stage managers Pumeza Damane and Awande Dube. The cast features Promise Cindy Magopa, Nicholas Aphane, Promise Mosoma, and Kaldi Makutike—each of whom brings a unique voice, physical vocabulary and personal history to this complex and affecting piece.

Howzit Jo'burg, if you haven't yet met the unforgettable Venter, Linda and Brenda, then you're in luck! 'The Agents' are back in town for one last special run at their beloved POPART theatre.

The Fleur du Cap- nominated ensemble of Roberto Pombo, Lisa Derryn Overy and Kyla Davis presents a trio of mischievous performers who delve into the cut-throat world of property development, gentrification and fancy estate living.

No one is safe from their hilariously sharp critiques - from slick real estate agents to clueless home buyers to neighbourhood watch groups (you know the ones).

'The Agents' is an outrageously satirical comedy that is 'screamingly funny and entertaining' and a 'smart play, with a superbly crafted script, zany performances with clowning, mime and physical comedy and satire which zips and thrusts.' (The Cape Robyn, 2024)

With a massive dose of irreverence and a keen eye for the ridiculous, this show is a must-see for anyone who loves a spicy, laugh-till-it-hurts, cringefest.

Created and performed by Lisa Derryn Overy, Kyla Davis and Roberto Pombo and directed by Toni Morkel.

Following a tour of the country throughout the past year - where the show has received further praise and accolades - we are excited to being this work back to Joburg and to POPArt!

Text Me When You Arrive puts to trial the social media trends around gender-based violence and questions the practicality of such hashtags and the ability of the digital space to exert tangible change in the scourge of gender-based violence in South Africa.

The play is inspired by the daily plight of women in South Africa, inside their homes and on the streets. In the play, three friends make a YouTube video, advising women on “how to not get raped and killed in South Africa”. The girls take the audience through various rules that will ‘ensure’ their safety and prevent or lessen their chances of being raped. The rules are a combination of the social media hashtags: #StayVigilant #MeToo #AmINext and the things our mothers warned us about.

The play is a satirical, hard-hitting portrayal of the harsh realities of women in our country.

Text Me When You Arrive was devised and written by the cast Aaliyah Matintela, Sibahle Mangena and Thuli Nduvane. The show is directed by Sinenhlanhla Mgeyi. MoMo Matsunyane has served as a Mentor & Contributor on the production.

“We feel that our piece is relevant and relatable but it is sad that even after ten years it will still be relatable – my dream is that this becomes the last time that a play of this nature is ever written or even performed.” – Aaliyah Zama Matintela (cast member).

Audience Care Note : Content relating to sexual assault.
