This dramatic reading of Three Women, a little known poem by the literary icon Sylvia Plath is paired with readings on motherhood by three talented writers from Wits Creative Writing. Three Women invites audiences to experience writing from the bone, from the heart, from the soul, on to the stage and into memory.

Busisiwe Mahlangu won the 2020 New Contrast National Poetry Prize with her poem I Wear Mother’s Bones. Author of the acclaimed collection, Surviving Loss, this award-winning writer, performer and dreamer from Pretoria has been selected for writing fellowships with the Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Studies and the International Writing Program in Iowa. Longlisted for the Sol Plaatje EU Poetry Award, her writing appears in New Coin, Atlanta Review, 20.35 Africa, Flow, Wild Imperfections and elsewhere. She is an Assistant Editor at New Coin, holds a BA from UNISA and is completing Honours at Wits University.

Terry-Ann Adams is a 30-something multi-award-winning genderqueer, disabled author whose debut novel Those Who Live In Cages was longlisted for the HSS and Sunday Times Literary Awards, and whose 2022 short story collection White Chalk earned the HSS Award for Best Fiction Short Stories and the SALA Nadine Gordimer Short Story Award in 2023. Winner of the Chris Van Wyk Bursary from Pan Macmillan, she recently graduated from the Wits MA in Creative Writing with distinction.

Srila Roy is a professor in sociology at the University of the Witwatersrand and currently completing a MA in creative writing, also at Wits. Her latest book titled Dissonant Intimacies: Feminist Reflections on Southern Decoloniality is out in November with Wits University Press.
