Event Details on Facebook

Hobane Mmuso is a contemporary South African drama that interrogates the intersections of faith, politics, and personal ambition in the post-democratic era. Set primarily in a rural church that has become both a place of refuge and a site of manipulation, the story unpacks how power and morality collide when divine purpose is compromised by personal greed.

At its heart, the play asks: “What happens when those entrusted to lead the people toward light begin to worship the shadow of power instead?

Through sharp dialogue, emotional honesty, and physical storytelling, Hobane Mmuso holds a mirror to South Africa’s social and spiritual contradictions. The work examines the moral decay hidden behind religious and political facades, inviting audiences to question their own complicity in systems of silence and corruption.

SCRIPT TEASE offers productions (or writers) and audiences the opportunity to be in dialogue before work is put on the floor. Additionally, it offers audiences a window into various processes, as well as the chance to experience work that is otherwise difficult to mount. Readings are followed by a dialogue with the audience.
