Young ones dream of a future…the more advanced in age reflect on paths ventured.
The Hillbrow Theatre Project and C:NTACT, in partnership with Tswelopele Frail Care Centre, presents young@home, an inter-generational production that brings together the youth and elderly residents of Hillbrow. young@home is a presentation of personal stories of Hillbrow as home - an exploration of notions of home and what constitutes community in a city with a long history of ever-changing migrant communities. We open on the 1st of April at 6pm at the Hillbrow Theatre.
With everyone here being from everywhere else, there is a compelling assortment of tales of family migrations from other countries, from rural villages and from townships – and how they have come to settle, albeit still in perpetual transit, in the inner-city. young@home is an exciting theatrical experience based on the true accounts of the sad, the joyous, the reflective, the prospective, the funny, and at times, the obscure and random stories and memories of a most dynamic group.
Director, Gceble Dlamini has assembled a stellar creative team; Jefferson Tshabalala is the dramaturge, Nhlanhla Mahlangu and Sonia Radebe will choreograph and Joao Orecchia and Nhlanhla will create a soundscape of songs and music. Mark Straw, photographer, has joined the team to document and to create portraits. Peter DuPont Weiss joined us for two weeks from Denmark to share his experience working on various C:NTACT projects. The production will explore spoken word, dance, song, soundscape design, video and photography to devise a unique work from the neighbourhood of Hillbrow.
